Born and raised in sub tropical Queensland and residing on the sunshine coast a life long connection and love affair with the ocean has birthed a creative passion within me.

I have been captivated by nature and serene environments for as long as I can remember. Seeing and seeking beautiful places and images has been part of the flow of my life. The ocean at dawn has particularly been a grounding entering place of solace and beauty. I would find myself catching glimpses of fractions of seconds through my eyes, mind and now the camera.

“To photograph truthfully and effectively is to see beneath the surfaces and record the qualities of nature and humanity which live or are latent in all things.” — Ansel Adams

I especially love to engage intimately with nature and the subject of my image. Be it swimming in a turbulent sea / shooting in close proximity to the surfer and the wave / floating beneath the surface of the ocean / or standing against the approaching ferocity of the storm front. Seeing a person a place and a moment differently each time through fresh eyes.

It’s these moments of fleeting beauty that captivate and motivate me. Here are some of the fleeting glimpses…

“Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever… it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.” Aaron Siskind

The Aqua Panda

A number of years ago I was in China on Hainan Island for the world Longboard Titles. It was really hot so I took off my shirt and walked down the beach under the shade of some coconut palms to shoot photos.

Pretty soon there was a small crowd of Chinese women gathered watching the surfing then they started getting selfies with me. Im a pretty hairy and tall guy. One of thes ladies rubbed my hairy arm and said ‘Oh you Panda’.

Some of the pro surfers overheard and Ive been nic named Panda ever since. Im a water photography specialist so the name AquaPanda just flowed and so did the #theaquapanda.
